Efforts for Chile continue to be needed. Meanwhile, it is good to know everyone continues to pitch in. Neighboring politicians, musicians, and fans display their solidarity with Chile.

Bolivian President, Evo Morales, said he would donate half his salary; Peru’s Alan Garcia donated a hospital in the heart of Chile; Argentina’s leader increased the amount of gas exported to Chile; Ecuador has sent 9 tons of supplies.

Recently, the concert “Argentina abraza a Chile” drew in more than 100 million people to Buenos Aires. Throughout the event they collected tons of canned milk, mineral water, medicine and clothing. Live sounds by Gustavo Cerati, Leon Gievo and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs took over. This sent the much-needed strong sign of support for their Chilean neighbors.

On another end, Peruvian folkloric singer, Eva Ayllon shared the stage with Chilean composer, Claudia Acuna in a fundraising performance in New York. Just yesterday, thanks to the generosity of artists, sponsors and volunteers “Miami ayuda a Chile” raised money to build 20, 000 homes for the homeless in Chile. Special performances included singers Luis Fonsi and Alberto Plaza.

It is acts like these that make me feel proud to say I am Latino.

As soon as the media is finished reporting, we have a tendency to forget. These images are a strong reminder of the Chilean lives that have been forever changed. Surropa pulls an all-nighter

Last week, Surropa formed part of the American Cancer Society event, Relay for Life at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Relay for life is an all night event dedicated to fight cancer and honor those who have fought hard against it. Surropa’s intern, Paola and other students from FIU, pulled an all-nighter to raise money to find a cure for cancer. The walk started at 6pm on Friday, March 5th and ran until 8am Saturday morning.

The festive event featured an opening survivor lap as cancer survivors walked around. Music pulsed through the speakers and cheers punctuated the air as the Relay for Life got underway in a jam-like atmosphere on a chilly night that saw temperatures dip into the 40s (yes this is Miami). Performances by live bands like When In Maine, Zumba classes, Step shows and more filled the hours as the night progressed. Throughout the fun, Surropa helped the organization of professional business leaders known as Alpha Kappa Psi- fund-raise money for this cause. Overall, Relay for Life here raised over $65,000 for the American Cancer Society.

South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin

SXSW is an amazing event in Austin, Texas, showcasing original music, indepdendent film and interactive creativity. The music fest starts March 17, and showcases 2,000 musical acts from around the world on more than 80 stages in downtown Austin. Planners say it's a first look at tomorrow's stars. We have our eyes on the Gibson Latin Rock Mixer on March 20.

You may have heard, we just started selling a new game on Surropa.com - Mentirosa. Here's the history behind the game.

Mentirosa® is known in many countries, by many different names. Its ancestry comes from a close relative, Cubilete, a game known to have been played as early as the Roman Era, especially in Spain. Travelling to the Americas during the Spanish Empire, it became widely popular in Cuba and other parts of Latin America during the 19th and 20th centuries.

It is rumored that Mentirosa came about when the American GI's in Guantanamo Bay combined the popular American game, liar's poker, with the cups and Spanish Poker dice used to play Cubilete.

Arriving in South Florida with exiled Cubans in the 1950s, Mentirosa’s 21st century rebirth will give a new generation of players the opportunity to enjoy this classic game the way it was meant to be played.

Alexis Ziritt

A Venezuelen illustrator & comic book artist his style is a influence of old Mexican comics like El Santo, Kaliman and Fantomas, and the great lucha libre movie lobby cards. He has created a limited custom line of Vans for SOBO.

Some of his works include: music flyers for groups such as Mastodon, Cage, and Prefuse 73, concept art and storyboards for movies and T.V., Complex magazine, published short comics in BARSOWIA magazine(part of a Galicia collective with David Rubin), plus his own comic series “Rudo” and "MEKANO TURBO".

Helena Garcia

Raised in South Florida with a BFA in Illustration from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Helena enjoys creating designs and paintings consisting of whimsical characters. These include animals to little girls with funny haircuts and everything in between. Her inspirations come from Japanese aesthetics, cartoons from the 60’s and vintage design. On her spare time she enjoys baking cupcakes for her family and friends, playing Mario Kart Wii and napping with her chihuahua, Kiko.

Mun2 is kicking off a new show called The Mun2 Look. They have asked Surropa to create a special pop-up retail store, to mark the occasion, from Jan 22-24 in Miami Beach, FL.

The event kicks off on Jan 22nd at Bar 721 (721 N Lincoln Lane, Miami Beach) with a cocktail reception, DJ set by Mr. Pauer and food catered by Latin Burger, owned by celebrity chef, Ingrid Hoffman (who knew that even a burger would taste that much better with a little Latin flare). If you're interested in attending, send us an email to info@surropa.com and we'll put you on the guest list, or you can RSVP directly on our Facebook page. Only those on our list will be admitted to this event.

The store, located at 1671 Meridian Ave (next to Macy's), will be open the night of the 22nd from 7PM-11PM as well as Saturday and Sunday from 12PM-8PM. SOBO artists will be customizing Vans slip-ons and Kid Robot Munny's toys. We also have this amazing t-shirt printer that will print any phrase you can think of (keep it clean please). Come stop by and check out some really cool Latin and Latin-inspired brands and products (nothing you can find at any other store in Miami, promise).

Mun2 will also be filming throughout the weekend, so who knows, you may even get on TV. At the very least, you can meet Paula Garces, the new host of The mun2 Look will be there from 12-2 on Saturday (guys trust us, you won't be disappointed). For you women, Guad Venegas, the host of 18 and Over and Pico from The mun2 Shuffle will be hanging out at the store on Sunday from 12-2PM.
